"Hymnus
Paradisi é uma belíssima peça coral que foi composta por Herbert Howells entre 1936 e 1938. Howells guardou-a
e não a apresentou em público. Em 1935 , a 6 de Setembro , Michael , filho de
Howells , morreu de poliomielite com apenas nove anos de idade. Esta peça foi
apresentada pela primeira vez no Three Choirs Festival, a 7 de Setembro
de 1950, quinze anos e um dia após a morte de Michael.
"Hymnus
Paradisi" é considerada uma choral masterpiece que o Maestro
Martyn Brabbins e a BBC Symphony Orchestra apresentaram
no Royal Albert Hall, a 29 Agosto de 2012 , nos BBC Proms , com as
vozes de Miah Persson soprano, Andrew Kennedy tenor, o BBC Symphony Chorus e o
London Philharmonic Choir.

- Requiem aeternam (the first 30 bars are identical to the 3rd movement of the Requiem of 1936)
- The Lord is my shepherd (a setting of Psalm 23)
- Sanctus. I will lift up mine eyes (which juxtaposes the Sanctus from the Ordinary of the Mass with Psalm 121)
